BWT Racing Point F1 Team is delighted to welcome global superstar Luis Fonsi to the virtual grid. The Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and producer – best known for his record-breaking multi-platinum selling hits ‘Despacito’ and ‘Échame La Culpa’, among others – will make his F1 Esports debut at the virtual wheel of the RP19.
Fonsi will be joined by rising FIA Formula 3 star David Schumacher – the 19-year-old German set to make his third consecutive appearance with the team, having impressed in the previous two races. Fittingly for such a star-studded line-up, this weekend’s virtual action will take place at the jewel in the motorsport crown – the iconic Circuit de Monaco.
Having recorded his first studio album in 1998, Luis Fonsi has become a household name in the Latin music scene around the world during a career spanning more than two decades and counting. With nine studio albums now in his repertoire [the most recent, the certified double diamond album ‘Vida’, released in 2019], he shows no signs of slowing down in the studio – something he’ll be aiming to replicate on the virtual racetrack this weekend.
Amongst that extensive back catalogue of hits are the record-breaking ‘Despacito’ with Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber and ‘Échame La Culpa’ with Demi Lovato, both becoming two of the Top 10 most viewed videos of the decade. In 2018, ‘Despacito’ received seven Guinness World Record titles, including most viewed music video online, most liked video online, most viewed music video on YouTube (duet), most streamed track worldwide, first YouTube video to receive 5 billion views and most viewed video online.
At time of writing, ‘Despacito’ remains the most-watched YouTube video of all time, with over 6.7 billion views, in addition to winning four Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Latin Music Awards, five Billboard Music Awards and received four Grammy Awards nominations.
